Critical thinking Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Critical thinking - Essay Exampleaffordable housing is housing where there is an intervention in the securities industry through public subsidy (2005, p.22).Other terms such as subsidized housing, attainable housing, and low-income housing can be used to mean affordable housing (Cowan, 2008).In recent years, the cost of property has grown more rapidly than incomes making it presently impossible for low and middle income earners to afford reasonable properties. send-off time buyers also form the group of people that is losing the most for lack of affordable housing (Whitfield, 2012). Due to this, some people have to search slightly for more affordable property in other areas. Sassi points out that in the UK there is a deficit of between 30,000 and 45,000 affordable housing units being construct each year (2012, p.66). People working in high property value areas such as the South East and London are usually affected by the high prices of property. There is need for more affordabl e housing units to accommodate the needs of everyone, since even while housing benefits can discredit the burden that comes with housing for low income earners, the number of people in need of affordable housing is too big to be catered for through the housing benefits. The UK government has been investigating different approaches to increase the number of affordable housing, as well as planning on prefabricating parts and sometimes entire buildings to create fashion for more occupants. According to Sassi prefabrication offers a good potential for creating energy-efficient housing by integrating higher levels of insulation in new locution systems (2012, p.66). Prefabrication may be done on-site or off-site. However, off-site prefabrication carries more benefits over on-site fabrication since, in off-site fabrication manufacturing waste is reduced, while factory construction addresses the problem on construction skills shortage which is abound in the UK.In the United Kingdom, more than half of affordable housing is achieved

Evaluate the claim that German big business was willingly and Essay

Evaluate the claim that German big business was willingly and profitably cooperated with the Nazi regime in the developing of Europe, 1939-45 - Essay ExampleOne of the stronger reactions is given to those companies which are discovered or confess to having links with the Nazi regime and from an examination of historical records as nearly as various other documents it seems clear that many companies willingly cooperated with the Nazis towards the exploitation of Europe. However, it can be shown that the companies had little interest in ideology or the motives of the Nazis rather, they were interest in making money since that was their main objective. The economic background of the era is important in this respect because when the Nazis came into power, the economic situation of Germany was disastrous. High unemployment rates meant that the parsimony was under productive and under pressure. During this time, the economic reorganization of the state was made the responsibility of a r espected banker, Hjalmar Schacht. Under his guidance, several changes were made to the economic indemnity and some of the first economic changes were the elimination of trade unions and establishment of the wage controls in German society (Wikipedia, 2006).These measures certainly helped the business community since trade unions had been fitting to strike as well as negotiate salaries on a collective basis. Needless to say businesses approved of these ideas and worked hand in hand with the Nazis to cleanse the economy as Hitler saw fit. The money supply to the economy was spread out with the aid of deficit spending with interest rates held firmly at 4.5%. character companies were setup such as the MEFO company which issued bonds but these were actually utilized to hide expenditure on arms which was a violation of the Versailles Treaty (Wikipedia, 2006).The universe of a black market was stopped simply because the Germans could send violators to concentration camps or shot afte r a summary trial. Imports were limited while exports were expanded leading to an overvalued mark. Despite all of these measures,

Employment law 2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Employment law 2 - Essay ExampleIn this regard, it was not necessary for Leslie Accounting Firm to ask Gale these questions. Question 2 Jill can not use this situation as a defense to a Title sevensome action. This can be analysed to mean that she used the excuse so that she could split the Hispanic crew members. In fact, EEOC compliance requires that employers should not discriminate people for employment on the basis of their color, nationality, or race. Question 3 An affirmative action is a plan containing statistical information indicating the association of small jobs between eligible people especially in metropolitan recruiting areas and actual number of employees employed (Goldman and Corrada 194). Conversely, quotas are never allowed except in situations where they are direct by the federal court as a result of continued discrimination. In essence, goals are established in relation to when the fraction of underrepresented is less than what is expect and available in the re cruitment area. However, the key element is that the availability depends on individuals having the required qualifications for the job, not just the percentage of minorities. Question 4 Title VIIs of the civil rights Act of 1964 prohibits against discrimination. This law protects mothers of young children from workplace discrimination (Goldman and Corrada 200). It is the responsibility of employers to prevent molestation directed to caregivers from occurring in the work place. Employees subjected to such harassment are required to follow the employers harassment complaint process. In case the employee report the matter to the employer and no action is taken against the supervisor, the employee can process the employer for hostile work environment that violated Title VII. If the investigator determines that the employee was subjected to a hostile work environment, the court may rule that the employer was liable. Question 5 In the legal definition, familiar harassment is considered to be undesirable vocal, bodily, or visual demeanor of a inner nature that affects working conditions (Goldman and Corrada 200). Firstly, going by this definition, it is likely that the employee in the current scenario can sue the employer for sexual harassment. However, the employees would be required by the court to prove the claim of sexual harassment. Therefore, she needs to prove she belongs to a protected class and that the harassment complained of was based on sex. In this case, the employee is a woman and is protected under antidiscrimination law. The act of her supervisor touching her back qualifies as a physical conduct of a sexual nature, and his making of untoward statement qualifies to be a verbal conduct of a sexual nature. Nevertheless, in determining the case, the court may look in to some issues. For example, as an employee, it is advisable to report such cases to employer in the company under published sexual harassment policy and give them a chance to solve the problem (Goldman and Corrada 201). In this case, if the worker does not report to the employer first, she might loose the case. The law states that sexual harassment has to be severe or pervasive. In this regard, since the incidence occurred once, can not be enough for a law suit. Question 6 subject field origin

Proposal on the Disposal of Old Computers by Recycling Essay Example for Free

Proposal on the Disposal of Old Computers by Recycling EssayImagining if we have five hundred computers to dispose of, including its monitors attached to it, we are leaving approximately 3,000 lbs. of lead in the ground contaminating our environment if we do non recycle them properly. First rate is the creation of a Disposal Team consisting of at least three IT personnel of our companion and be responsible in the proper inclination of either the old machines by forwarding it to a third-party recycling organization. The team shall first take inventory not only the computers but as well the monitors attached, non-working printers, fax machines, and copiers. Everything should be accounted for and make sure nothing will be just sitting around or just piling up somewhere in the employment and suggest that this assessment must be done regularly. The team will also be responsible in reformatting and removing the hard drives using applicable certificate software in cleaning all t he nurture of the hard drives to prevent from other people from recovering any vital or sensitive information it may hold. It is also important to remove all company control tags to avoid identification to which company it came from.In the selection of the right recycling company, the disposal team shall make a thorough research and make recommendations for me as to the name of the company and why they had chosen such company. My primary requirement is that the company should not only be reputable but also certified, and a participant of the EPAs Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) Electronics Challenge program. The Challenge has three main goals, namely 1. Ensure responsible recycling through the use of third-party certified recyclers, 2.Increase transparency and accountability through public posting of electronics collection and recycling data, and 3. throw out outstanding performance through awards and recognition (EPA. gov, 2012, Electronics Challenge, p. 2). Participants un der this program responsibly manage used electronics collected by maximizing recycling and possible reuse, belittle damage to humans and the environment and proper destruction of sensitive information on all recycled machines. Reputable recycling companies must provide written supporting of the disposal procedures, they should tell us where did the hard drive sent or how did they destroy it.We do not want the old machines to be sent to third-world countries cast aside ground where it will harm their own people due to its hazardous waste. The company should state it clear how they handle data destruction. If they cannot provide such support then it is not a reputable one. Finally, the recycling company must submit to our company a report or written documentation on the procedure on how it handled its machine disposal with record of serial numbers, type of machine, description, and date of disposal. RecommendationIn addition to the new recycling program cosmos adopted in our comp any, I am also suggesting leasing of computers instead of buying them. Leasing in the financial aspect may save the company money by not spending too much on computers upfront. Usually, lease runs for about three years almost the same time as new engine room has just set in. The companys computer then will always have the latest technology and even the latest operating system. The company will also be entitled for purchase credits from the vendor upon return of older units when lease is up and upgrade for newer ones.In that way our company will not assume ownership of the machines and the vendor itself will be the one responsible in recycling it, less burden, and lesser tasks from our IT department.
